Our story

It began with
fourteen children.

Precious Stones opened in Kigali in 2008 on one conviction: that every child is a gem worth nurturing with intention.

Children and teachers on the Precious Stones campus

Built on love, driven by excellence.

We wanted more than a school. We wanted a home for learning, where children feel known, safe and inspired.

From daycare through primary, we pair international rigour with African identity. Academic achievement matters here, and so do kindness, curiosity and courage.

Our families come from Rwanda, from across Africa and from further afield. Each one is known, not just enrolled.

We did not build Precious Stones to be big. We built it to be the best place a child could grow.

Written on our walls.

Precious Stones is a Christian foundation school. Two verses painted on the campus say what we believe about children, and the children walk past them every day.

Isaiah 43:4 painted on the wall beside the school welcome sign
“You are precious and honoured in my sight, and I love you.”
Isaiah 43:4. Painted beside the welcome sign, in English and Kinyarwanda.
Proverbs 22:6 lettered across the stand on the sports field
“Train up a child in the way he should go.”
Proverbs 22:6. Running the length of the stand on the sports field.

Our journey so far.

From a single class in 2008 to daycare, nursery and primary on one campus. Each step was taken so that children could stay with us a little longer.

  1. The first class at Precious Stones in 2008

    2008: Fourteen children

Precious Stones opens in Kigali with fourteen pupils and a promise to know each of them well.

  2. Nursery classes in 2010

    2010: The nursery grows

Baby Class, Middle Class and Top Class are added, and children begin learning in more than one language.

  3. The new primary wing in 2013

    2013: Primary opens

Grade 1 to Grade 6 open in a new wing of the campus, so children can stay through the end of primary.

  4. Families at International Day in 2018

    2018: A wider family

Families from more than twelve nations now share the school, and Kigali stays at the centre of it.

  5. A pupil learning at home in 2020

    2020: Staying close

Through the COVID-19 closures, teachers and parents keep learning going, and trust between home and school deepens.

  6. The Precious Stones campus today

    Today: The same heart

Daycare, nursery and primary share one campus, guided by the conviction the school began with.
